How Mike Saved the Day: Bringing Life to a Brand Through Storytelling
As Senior Graphic Designer and Marketing Coordinator at Move Yourself in Cavan, South Australia, I was tasked with creating a compelling brand animation featuring the company’s lovable avatar, Mike. The goal? Show how Move Yourself could help customers solve real-life challenges, like connecting electricity during a house move — all with ease and charm. Drawing on my personal experience, I storyboarded a light-hearted narrative: Mike moves into a new home using the Move Yourself ute. After unloading the last box, he realizes he forgot one crucial step—connecting the electricity. Thinking quickly, Mike visits the Move Yourself website, where he seamlessly connects to an exclusive energy deal, restoring power in an instant. The story concludes with the uplifting tagline, "Set, Forget, and Chill," delivered both visually and audibly. To bring this vision to life, I rigged Mike in Adobe Character Studio, employing live motion capture for authentic movement. Using Illustrator, I meticulously crafted each branded scene, layering in animated text via After Effects and integrating select stock imagery for efficiency. Complementing the visual journey was a lively audio experience: I scripted sound effects and narration, casting a young, energetic Australian voice actor who embodied a playful, slightly ditsy persona. This choice added personality and relatability to the animation, resonating with a diverse audience. The result? An engaging, vibrant animation that reinforced brand storytelling, leaving customers inspired to "Set, Forget, and Chill."
